According to a new poll, the biggest housing concern for people in Britain is affordability as homebuyers struggle to get on the first rung of the property ladder.
The poll conducted by the Guardian/ICM highlights difficulties getting mortgages and high rents as the top topics we Britons' are losing sleep over.
The poll asked respondents to nominate 'the biggest problem which needs to be solved' in relation to housing. A weighty 29% of people polled answered that it was 'homebuyers' difficulties getting a mortgage'.
The top priority for 24% of respondents was 'the lack of council and social housing' while the 'excessive rents' charged by private landlords clearly bothered 15% more.
The pressure of price rises is a major headache for Briton's in both the purchase and rental property market and suggests strong support for future affordable house building projects.
Just 12% of people polled were upset about the 'countryside being threatened by ugly development' whilst a tiny 8% thought that the 'poor quality of Britain's housing stock' was a problem.
These latest figures also indicate that the public would rather property prices remain where they currently are or even fell rather than rising. As property prices have already begun to rise in the past 12 months, the Nationwide reported an 8.8% increase during 2013 and the pace continues to grow so far in 2014.
