Residents in Rochdale Facing Legal Demolition Notices

Residents of Lower Falinge are to be issued with legal demolition notices. The controversial proposals could see several blocks demolished, as part of a 20-year regeneration plan. The proposal is to demolish 15 blocks, with 10 blocks to remain and to be refurbished.

A spokesman for Rochdale Boroughwide Housing said:

"One of the next steps in taking forward these proposals is to issue a legal notice called an Initial Demolition Notice to homes expected to be affected by the demolition in the next five years."

The site has approximately 450 properties, with half of the properties on the site being affected by the plan. The proposals include: 560 new homes, improved network of streets, public realm, landscaped spaces, play areas and better parking. The refurbished properties will be integrated within the plan and will receive improvements, including new windows and doors.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing has guaranteed residents who want to stay in the town centre will be able to do so and this will form part of a 'Residents Deal.' The proposals are still at an early stage and the regeneration of Rochdale's town centre continues.
