A pre-dawn operation conducted in Middleton on Wednesday morning (13 September) culminated in the apprehension of a man and woman on drug-related charges, accompanied by the confiscation of a substantial cache of cash, narcotics, and weaponry.
Authorities descended upon a residence on Pershore Road, where they apprehended a 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman. Inside the premises, officers uncovered a significant quantity of class A drugs, specifically cocaine and heroin, with an estimated street value exceeding £1,000. Additionally, they seized class B cannabis.
The raid yielded an astonishing £8,000 in cash, several mobile phones believed to be exclusively designated for drug distribution, menacing machetes, and an assortment of watches. Alongside these discoveries, law enforcement also impounded two vehicles and an off-road motorcycle.
The execution of these warrants, authorized under Section 8 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) and Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, was initiated based on intelligence received regarding drug-related activities originating from the address. Concerns about the exploitation of young individuals in drug peddling operations further fueled the operation.
Detective Sergeant Bryant, representing Rochdale's Complex Safeguarding Team, commented, "The two individuals arrested are currently in police custody pending questioning. Our ability to carry out these warrants is a direct result of actionable intelligence provided by concerned members of the local community. Greater Manchester Police remains resolute in its commitment to investigate and respond to such intelligence promptly, as evidenced by today's operation."
DS Bryant urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in Rochdale neighborhoods or any concerns regarding the welfare of potentially exploited young people.
