NHS guidance on the Coronavirus

Our news items tend to be flavoured with matters touching the legal sector but in light of the global nature of the recent virus outbreak we have taken this opportunity to concentrate on the Coronavirus.

The virus is clearly affecting the courts, the property sector, and the wider legal profession, but in this instance we have listed the advice provided by the Government and the National Health Service (NHS).

As of the 30th March 2020 the current official guidance, provided by the NHS, states that people should only leave their homes for one of the following four reasons:

  1.  Shopping for basic necessities such as food and medicine.
  2.  One form of exercise such as a walk, run or cycle.
  3.  A medical need for themselves or to assist the vulnerable.
  4.  Travelling to work if such work absolutely can not be done from home.

Furthermore the following list, taken from the NHS website, represents the current guidance aimed at reducing the risk of catching the virus.

Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Do this often.
Use hand sanitiser if soap and water are not available.
When you cough or sneeze you should cover your mouth and nose (not with your hands).
Use tissues, or your sleeve, when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of the tissues and immediately wash your hands.

If your hands are not clean then you should not touch your nose, mouth or eyes as this could spread the virus.

In the event you are showing signs of the coronavirus (high temperature or a new continuous cough) you should call the 111 service and seek further guidance.

This is clearly a difficult time for all and we wish everyone well.
