Changes are to be made at a notorious road junction in Rochdale after a spate of crashes and near-misses.
The Townhead junction reopened in November following a £575,000 restructuring which was designed to reduce congestion in the area. However, critics argue that the new junction is a hazard, with six accidents occurring within one month of the reopening.
Council leader Richard Farnell is now calling for the installation of a right-turn filter light for drivers turning onto Whitworth Road.
He said, "It could be a number of weeks before the new equipment is in place. In the meantime, I would ask motorists to proceed with caution when approaching this junction."
Mr Farnell continued, "Although council highways engineers maintain the junction is safe [...] there is obviously a problem. We do not get half as many accidents at other junctions. I am worried that there could be a serious or fatal accident before long."
