A Judge has ruled that a burger van chef left a £5 million fortune by a businessman will keep the inheritance, despite a challenge by the deceased man's sister.
71-year-old David Turner died from a brain tumour in 2017, leaving the bulk of his wealth to Sam Jones, whom he "treated like a son". The two men met 17 years earlier in Chertsey when Mr Turner first began visiting the burger van, and bonded over a mutual passion for guitars and classic cars.
In a stark contrast, Mr Turner labelled his estranged sister Linda Cano a "conniving b----," cutting her out of his will.
Mr Turner, who ran a skip hire business, left his home, formerly a family pig farm, which has been in the Turner family for 70 years, to Mr Jones. He also bequeathed his half share in a 14-acre plot, which could be worth up to £10 million.
The will was challenged in court by Mrs Cano, because a copy of Mr Turner's original testament has never been found.
Ruling in favour of Mr Jones, the judge said: "There's no evidence of any kind to suggest that Mr Turner's intentions changed. He wanted Mr Jones to benefit as his friend and he didn't want any part of his estate to go to Mrs Can." he added.
