A woman has been jailed for two years and four months after stealing the identity of a doctor to gain employment treating patients in medical centres across England.
Oluwadamilola Opemuyi, 29, of Maidstone in Kent, used a General Medical Council (GMC) reference number of a legitimate doctor and forged a GMC certificate, marriage certificate, driving licence, passport and various other medical documents to find employment.
After applying for a number of vacancies under the guise of Oluwadamilola Adeyo, Opemuyi eventually gained employment through a locum agency and was sent to work at Swaleside and Elmley prisons on the Isle of Sheppey but was not kept on following complaints about her work. She was also sent to a surgery in Essex and two separate locations in Liverpool but following further complaints, Opemuyi was released without pay.
Inspector Ivan Beasley, senior investigating officer of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said:
"These were very serious offences committed by a woman who went to great lengths to gain employment as a doctor despite not having the necessary qualifications to do so.
"In total she treated 91 patients, all of whom have since been contacted by the NHS.
"They will no doubt have been alarmed and concerned to hear of Opemuyi's actions, as was the legitimate doctor whose identity she stole in order to commit her crimes.
"This was a complex investigation and I would like to pay tribute to my team of officers who worked extremely hard to get to the bottom of the case and bring Opemuyi to justice."
