Three Men Jailed in Nottinghamshire after Burglary

Three men in their thirties have been jailed after beating a man with a metal bar during a burglary late last year.

On December 4th 2014, the trio entered a property after trying the door handle to a flat on Outram Street in Sutton-in-Ashfield. The homeowner, who opened the door to the three men, was punched to the floor and assaulted with a metal bar. A number of items were stolen from the property and demands were made for money.

After previously pleading guilty to aggravated burglary an an earlier hearing, Lee Johnson, 30, of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, and Darren Lee Kenton and Matthew Hutchinson, 37 and 38, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on March 25th 2015. Mr Johnson and Mr Hutchinson both received a prison sentence of seven years and six months and Mr Kenton was sentenced to four years and six months.

Police officers were called to the address by a member of the public, who arrived just as the men were leaving. The victim, who had followed the men out of his property, told the officers his belongings had been stolen and he had been assaulted.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Moore, who oversaw the inquiry, said:

"This was a case where excellent police work meant that officers were in the right place at the right time. Two officers tackled all three suspects in a stairway, recovered the property and detained these three."
