I ran away from my violent husband and took his children with me

Lisa Robertson who was severely beaten by her husband planned a midnight escape with the intent to both run away and take his children.

Lisa was beaten for several years by her husband, Robert Hillyard, but she managed to escape with her two children and his biological children.

31 year old Lisa, had to carefully plan when she would run away as her husband Robert would seemingly go mad and take it out on his two daughters Sophie, 14 and Sarah 13.

To keep the children safe, Lisa phoned social services and police to inform them about her situation. Mrs Robertson said, "There would have been nobody to look after them properly and I knew that Robert treated them as a meal ticket."

Lisa told Daily Mail readers, "Without them he'd have no benefits but I refused to let them stay and I knew that with his abusive past, there would be no chance that they were taken away from me."

Privately educated Lisa, met Robert at the age of 18 and was instantly drawn in by his bad boy image.

After years of domestic abuse, Lisa finally called the police in 2006 when Robert punched her in the head while driving.

Robert apologised after the incident but it wasn't until Lisa had another son, Lewis, that she fled from him for good.

After contacting Women's aid, Lisa drove through the night with all four children from Southampton to Scotland.
