A farmer has been jailed after his careless driving led to the death of prominent Nottingham barrister, Alastair Munt.
Simon Plowright, 50, was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to death by careless driving and causing the death of Mr Munt. At the time of the incident, Mr Plowright had 278 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood. The UK limit is 80 milligrams.
Mr Plowright, speaking at the scene, said:
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I've had a few pints and I've fallen asleep.
"I've had six or seven pints and I think I fell asleep for a second.
"I've just been to a Christmas party in the Cuckoo and was drinking with an Irish friend."
Leading up to the incident, Mr Plowright was seen weaving in his vehicle and repeatedly driving on the wrong side of the road before crashing his Range Rover into Mr Munt's Peugeot on Nottingham Road.
