Certain criminal matters are covered by government support and our Grantham Legal Aid solicitors are here to make public funding easier to understand.

 

There are certain situations in which individuals are eligible for legal aid and these are based on your financial circumstances. They may cover all of your legal costs or only a part. From an age perspective if you are under 16 years of age you will automatically qualify for funding in criminal cases. If you are still in full time education this will be extended until you are 18.

 

You may be eligible to claim for legal aid in the following circumstances;

 

 Crime matters

 Welfare cases 

 Immigration and asylum applications

 Domestic violence and child care proceedings

 If you have been arrested, cautioned or charged by the police

 Debt matters, specifically if you are at risk of losing your home

 Family, divorce and mediation issues

 If you have an Educational Needs appeal

 

In regards to legal aid, you have the right to free independent advice from a duty solicitor at the Police Station.
