There are certain situations in which individuals are eligible for legal aid and these are based on your financial circumstances. They may cover all of your legal costs or only a part. From an age perspective if you are under 16 years of age you will automatically qualify for funding in criminal cases. The age limit rises to 18 if you are still in full-time education.

If you have been arrested, cautioned or charged by the police
Debt matters, specifically if you are at risk of losing your home
Family, divorce and mediation issues
If you are dealing with an Educational Needs appeal
