Incredible figures from the Ministry of Justice have just been released, revealing that over 11,000 children aged just 10 and 11 have escaped prosecution for violent crimes like rape and sex offences.
The report has sparked a backlash from justice protestors who are furious about the children being 'let off' with such offences.
Figures show that 9,099 boys and 2,224 girls were either reprimanded, warned or cautioned in the past seven years but none were taken to court.
Knife crime campaigner Theresa Cave commented on the report, saying, "These children should not be allowed to walk away with a slap on the wrist".
The shocking numbers of children involved in sex attacks total 120, with nine rapes recorded – these are by children who barely sit over the age of criminal responsibility.
Drugs and gun offences, arson, fraud and forgery are also among the list of shame committed by children in this country, often carrying lengthy prison sentences for adults in the same position.
As the age of criminal responsibility in England and Wales is 10 years old, children above this can be charged and arrested when they commit a crime.
Mrs Cave who has campaigned against violent crime since her 17 year old son Chris was stabbed to death in 2003, added, "I have always said education is a must to nip crime in the bud while children are young enough to understand, but old enough to face the consequences if caught".
