Mother Attacked in Random Street Assault

A Chaddesden man carried out a horrific, random attack on a woman in front of a ten-year-old boy, punching her repeatedly in the face before stealing her car.

Kaine Brough attacked the 45-year-old children's home worker as she collected the boy from playing football in Chaddesden.

Brough shouted "give me the keys" as he rained down blows on the woman in St Mark's Road. He then drove the vehicle just a few metres before getting out and fleeing.

Now Brough, who has 49 previous offences to his name, has been jailed for four years after admitting his latest offence at Derby Crown Court.

Recorder Adrian Reynolds said:

"Your behaviour was seriously violent and completely irrational and why you took this car beggars belief. The victim works in a children's home and does nothing but good for the community.

"She looks after children and on this day she was taking one of them home after he had played football. You punched her to the face and she fell to the ground.

"You then punched her repeatedly to the face, she was utterly defenceless and the sheer level of the violence you used against her is an appalling thing to contemplate."

Nicola Hunter, for Brough, said her client was "unable to explain" why he carried out the attack.
