Drink Driving

Drink Driving Mother Disqualified from Driving Again

A mother has been banned from the road for a second time after police caught her driving home from a pub so she could pick up her children.

Rajinder Atwal, 35, was three times over the breath alcohol limit when she was stopped by the police as she parked at her home in Kings Drive, Mickleover. Despite being convicted for the same offence three years prior, Atwal drove home drunk with the intention of picking her children up from school by foot.

Magistrate Neil Byrne told Atwal at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court:

"Cases where people drink and drive, we always take seriously.

"People who drink and drive twice, who don't heed their lesson, we take very seriously.

"We accept you weren't, so we are not going to send you to custody but we are very concerned about you as a person but also about you as a person who has put other people at risk."

Atwal was disqualified once more from driving for three years and handed a 12-month community order. Atwal's previous convictions for motoring offences include failing to stop after an accident in 2008 and being over the limit at the wheel in 2012.
