The number of youths illegally riding their dirt bikes in Derby is on the wane, according to police who have been trying to crackdown on the problem.
The issue of off-road bikes causing a nuisance for residents was especially bad in the area of the city that police call Derby East. It has led to numerous complaints from residents who say noise problems and safety concerns are the main issues.
Now Sergeant Graham Young, who is part of the safer neighbourhood team in that area, says problems in Derby East have hugely reduced. He said:
"Reports of the bikers and the problems that come with them are significantly down across our area with the exception of Sinfin. We know this has been a massive issue for a long time and creates problems with noise and the anti-social behaviour that comes with it. It's something I have a real heart for.
"People do not deserve to have to put with these problems. We've put a lot of effort in to sort this out and we will continue to clamp down on the issue. At the height of the problem we were getting around 30 reports for a two-week period. But we've not had any for about a fortnight and it had decreased before that."
