An investigation has been launched after 10 vehicles crashed at a new Derby roundabout within 48 hours.
Cars and vans have ploughed straight over the traffic island, flattening road signs and leaving debris strewn across the carriageway.
The island, on the A516 in Mickleover, was created to allow a new access junction for the 300-home Four Acres estate being built nearby.
Although nobody has been seriously injured in the incidents, one resident described it as "the most dangerous roundabout in the country" due to poor lighting and damaged signage.
Derbyshire County Council has now launched a probe to look into the incidents. A spokeswoman said:
"After being made aware of a number of incidents over the weekend we immediately sent highways officers out to the site to investigate. The suggestion that new lighting on the approaches was not functioning has been raised as a matter of urgency with the developer's contractors.
"It is difficult to comment on the reasons why these incidents have happened without knowing the full circumstances, but they will be investigated as a matter of urgency."
