A drug offender who was caught in possession of 0.01grams of cannabis probably valued at less than 50p has been ordered to pay more than £300 in fines, costs and charges.
Chesterfield Magistrate's Court heard how Ryan Samuel Wilson, 22, was stopped by a police car just outside Matlock, when officers discovered the small quantity of drugs.
Wilson, who has previous convictions including possessing class B drugs with intent to supply, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis after the incident in September.
Prosecuting solicitor Ian Shaw said:
"The police saw the vehicle the defendant was in and it was stopped and a very small amount of cannabis was recovered. Mr Wilson accepts it was his."
Defence solicitor Rob Sowter said:
"It's the smallest amount of cannabis I have ever seen anyone charged with and I suspect it is under 50p in value."
Mr Sowter added that Wilson is a changed man with a newly-born daughter, and has a fulltime job as a delivery driver.
Magistrates fined Wilson £197 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
