Judicial Review For Tribunal Fee Change

Trade Union Unison will challenge the introduction of fees of up to £1,200, in October, for Employment Tribunals.

Employment law changes, which came into force in July, now say that claimants will have to pay up to £250 for an issue fee and up to £950 as a hearing fee. However if you can demonstrate your inability to pay these fees may be waived.

This will save £10million each year, The Ministry of Justice claims, whilst employment solicitors have advised these changes could lead to a 25% fall in the number of clients pursuing their employers for compensation.

The feeling within the industry seems to reflect the fact that of all the reforms currently affecting the legal sector that this is the most damaging.
