An 84 year old Newquay widow has enjoyed uninterrupted views of the Cornish sea for 14 years. She was horrified when planners approved a 15ft extension next door blocking the picturesque scene.
Grandmother of 12, Joyce Reynolds bought the seaside home with her late husband Kenneth and together they created a terrace where they could sit and watch the waves.
Neighbours had plans drawn up just months after Mr Reynolds died last year of Myeloid Leukaemia and despite concerns raised by the Reynolds family, Newquay Town Council supported the plans.
Mrs Reynolds is bitterly upset at the plans, saying, "My husband used to love looking out there. We had beautiful views of the sea. Now I can't see anything".
Works began on the Trewlawn Guest House in January and within months, Mrs Reynolds was faced with looking at the 15ft high wall from her lounge, blotting out all sight of the Cornwall coastline.
Owners of the neighbouring property Isabel Fisher and Dirk Parker declined to comment in the Daily Mail article but as part of the planning proposal passed by the council, first and second floor balconies are also being erected which will sit right outside Mrs Reynolds windows.
Explaining that her son-in-law and neighbour have written to the Cornwall Council to complain about the planning permission, she is adamant that they will take their complaint to the Ombudsman.
A council spokesperson added, "Potential loss of sea views and devaluation of property are not material planning concerns".
