Gone With The Wind actresses property on sale for 3.5 Million

Hollywood actress Vivien Leigh's country retreat has just come back on to the market with London estate agent Savills for a cool £3.5million.

Famous for her role in 'Gone With The Wind' playing Scarlett O'Hara to heartthrob Clark Gable's character, Rhett Butler.  Vivien Leigh bought the property in 1961 as a country hideaway.

The Grade II listed five bedroomed mansion near Uckfield, East Sussex boasts an ancient bluebell wood and a picturesque pond upon which the actresses ashes were reported to have been scattered in 1967 when she died of tuberculosis.

Tickerage Mill is attracting huge interest not least because it is the former home of the iconic film star but because of the big name visitors the property attracted when she lived there.

It has been reported that Leigh had many high profile characters through the doors of her country estate including former husband Laurence Olivier, Princess Margaret and Sir Winston Churchill to name a few.

Paying just £20,000 for the property back in the sixties, Vivien Leigh bought the estate as a retreat from the bright lights of London following her divorce from Olivier.

The present owners Ken and Honer Hoggins have decided to sell up, having bought the estate in 2005 they have tried to maintain as much of the actresses influence and style in the property as possible.

The marble fireplace Leigh had shipped from Venice still sits in pride of place in the master bedroom together with the Wisteria covered wall outside, a reminder of her love of the garden and it's floral delights.
