Former JFK home to go on sale

President John F Kennedy's former London home is set to become the capital's most expensive property with a price tag of up to £300 million.

The row of Georgian townhouses in Knightsbridge has planning permission to be turned into a 41,000sq ft opulent pad.

Kennedy lived in the Grade II listed property in the 1930s when his father Joseph was US ambassador.

After being quietly sold for around £70 million recently, developers are planning to turn it into a giant luxury residence.

Westminster Council has granted planning permission for the row to be turned into either two large homes or one huge mansion, 30 times the size of an average three-bedroom house.

Estate agents claim the property could be worth up to £7,000 a square foot. If converted into a single property this would equate to £287 million, double the price paid for an apartment in the nearby One Hyde Park development, which currently holds the record for highest price paid in London.

The former JFK property stands next to Hyde Park, has private gardens, and there are plans for a large leisure area and a car park on the ground floor. Cars will be lowered to the car park on a lift.

There are also plans for a swimming pool on the lower ground floor, together with a kitchen, wine cellar and staff quarters. Upstairs there will be a total of seven bedrooms.
