Stockport bars could face a 'late night levy' if they choose to serve alcohol after midnight as part of a new council licensing policy.
A re-shuffle of licensing laws could see a 'late night levy' introduced in Stockport on bars open past midnight to help with the cost of policing. A draft proposal for 2016-2021, which has been created in line with licensing laws that state councils must produce a new policy every five years, highlights the rising cost of policing the night time economy.
The draft proposal states:
"The late night levy is a discretionary power allowing the council to collect an annual fee from all licensed premises in Stockport that are authorised to sell alcohol between the hours of midnight and 6am as a means of raising a contribution towards the cost of policing the night time economy.
"We recognise that any levy introduced would cover all premises within Stockport and not just those premises that are deemed to be causing any problems."
Of the 10 staff members working at La Vina, seven have been relocated to other restaurants within the Casual Dining Group portfolio, while three opted to leave the company.
