A Selfridges salesman who was caught stealing thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes from his employer must pay back more than £8,000 or face more time in jail.
Jake Coxon, 23, was jailed for three years after taking the items from the company's Manchester store and selling them on to buy cannabis and cocaine.
Now a judge has ruled the Coxon, who is still in prison, must pay back £8,110 within three months. If he doesn't repay the cash, another six months will be added to his prison sentence. Of the £8,110, a total of £2,905 will be awarded to Selfridges as compensation.
His sentencing hearing in October last year heard how Coxon, who worked as a wine salesman, stole t-shirts, gilets and jackets by stuffing them down his trousers. He then brought them back to his counter in the wine department where he removed the security tags. Some of the items later appeared for sale on eBay.
At the original sentencing hearing, Judge Martin Rudland said:
"It is a great tragedy that you are in the dock at a crown court. You are clearly capable and resourceful and yet you have chosen to deploy that ability in criminal enterprise."
