19-year-old Myles Moore had been sentenced to five and a half years for stabbing personal trainer, Michael Brookes.
On the 2nd October 2016, Mr Brookes was in the office at Pure Gym based at Debdale Park in Gorton. The teenager began banging on the office door, demanding a taxi. Mr Brookes informed the teenager that the company does not arrange taxis. Mr Moore began shouting and accused the personal trainer of being a racist and threatened to 'do him.'
Mr Brookes attempted to escort the teenager from the premises, when the teenager produced a knife. The teenager then stabbed Mr Brookes in the abdomen and slashed him across the elbow. It was a miracle the teenager did not cause more serious injuries.
Mr Brookes has been greatly affected by this crime and commented:
"It has really affected me. Firstly it has really knocked my self confidence and makes me wary of people… It has greatly reduced my income – I used to work 40 hours a week but now only work 17 because I am scared to approach people."
The incident has psychologically damaged Mr Brookes, who can no longer compete in fitness competitions due to lasting nerve damage, which requires regular medication.
He went onto say:
"I have permanent scars which are a constant reminder of what happened."
Mr Justice William Davis, sitting at Manchester Crown Court sentenced the teenager to five and a half years in a Young Offenders Institution for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
