Neville and Giggs Development Plan Revised

Ex-footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs's £200 million plans to redevelop a part of Manchester city centre have been revised.

A public consultation has been opened on the new proposals, which affect the Jackson's Row area of the city. The revisions have come in response to criticism of the original plans by conservationists.

The St Michael's development plan includes a five-star hotel, apartments, offices, and a synagogue.

Key changes from the original plans include retaining the Sir Ralph Abercromby pub and maintaining the former Bootle Street police station frontage.

There will now be one single tower, rather than the originally proposed two, which will be slimmer, shorter, and with a lighter-coloured exterior.

Catherine Dewar, from Historic England, said:

"The new masterplan still needs work but it's getting there. The new proposals... have the potential to enhance the character of the Deansgate/Peter Street conservation area, rather than dominate it, as the previous scheme threatened."

Neville said the scheme would make a "significant contribution" to the growth of Manchester city centre and would create 1,500 jobs.
