Mother who lost four children in arson attack dies from injuries

A mother from Manchester who lost her four children in a petrol bomb attack on their home has died 20 months later from injuries sustained in the fire.

Michelle Pearson, 37, was seriously burned in the arson attack in Salford in December 2017, which claimed the lives of her four children Demi, 15, Brandon, 8, Lacie, 7, and Lia, 3.

The mother was put into an induced coma after suffering 75% burns to her body in the blaze and her injuries were so bad that she could not go to her children's funerals.

Ms Pearson had difficulties recovering from her injuries since the incident and has been under close medical care.

In June, Ms Pearson's mother, Sandra Lever said her daughter's health had taken a turn for the worse: "Michelle's health has deteriorated in the past 10 weeks, Michelle is still in critical health and still remains in hospital until further notice."

Unfortunately she died from her injuries earlier this week.

Following her death, Ms Pearson's mother, Sandra Lever posted a statement online which said: "Sadly last night, after a hard 20 months of fighting our beautiful Michelle gained her wings and went to join her babies."

In May 2018, Zak Bolland and David Worrall, then 23 and 25, were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of the four children in the arson attack. Bolland's girlfriend, Courtney Brierley, 20, was also accused of encouraging and assisting the two men with the attack and was found guilty of four counts of manslaughter. She was later sentenced to 21 years in prison.

The trial heard that the men removed a fence panel from the garden, smashed a kitchen window and threw petrol bombs into the house at 5am on 11th December 2017. Three of the children who were sleeping in the front bedroom died in the blaze. The youngest sister, Lia, died in hospital two days later.

During the trial, the jury was told that the attack was part of a feud with the victim's older brother Kyle Pearson, 17 at the time, who escaped the fire.
