A new park, 1,300 homes, a hotel, and more than 807,000 sq ft of office space could be built as part of plans to transform the 'forgotten' Mayfield depot at Piccadilly.
It is believed London-based developers U+I are behind the plans to transform the derelict station opposite Piccadilly, with an official announcement expected later this week.
Council chiefs say the new plans will create housing, jobs, and business opportunities. A report to be discussed by the council's executive, states:
"The delivery of Mayfield will result in a major mixed use scheme on a currently derelict site.
"As well as providing new high quality commercial accommodation, the new residential accommodation and the public amenities including public realm, retail and leisure opportunities will create a desirable location in which to live and work."
A spokesperson for the Mayfield Partnership said:
"The procurement process to select a development partner for Manchester Mayfield is currently in a standstill period, in accordance with OJEU regulations.
"Once that period has come to an end, the Mayfield Partnership… will announce the preferred bidder to lead the regeneration of this 24-acre, key gateway site in Manchester City Centre.
"We expect to be able to make this announcement on 16 September."
