A violent criminal escapes court after being given a 16 month sentence

A VIOLENT criminal fled from the dock of a court after being sentenced to 16 months in jail for assault.

30-year-old Nicholas Bunclark escaped after a judge gave him a custodial sentence at Liverpool Crown Court. Bunclark, of Netherton, had been convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm over an attack on Nov 19 2021 at a hostel in Southport.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the defendant had denied the charges and initially buried his head in his hands after being informed of his sentence. He was allowed a brief interaction with his mother before officers attempted to lead him to the cells, at which point Bunclark vaulted out of the unsecured dock. He escaped after a brief tussle in which officers were unable to restrain him.

"The strict security measures we have in place ensure escapes from court custody are extremely rare," a spokesman for HM Courts and Tribunals said.

Merseyside Police issued a photograph of the offender in the hope that it would help lead to his recapture.
