The North is the most affordable place to live

This week the Telegraph revealed the list of the 10 most affordable cities to live in the UK. With the exception of Londonderry and Lisburn in Northern Ireland and Stirling in Scotland, all the other affordable cities are in the North of England.

This comes at a time when the average house price is £172,556 which is 5.6 times the average gross annual income.

The top 10 most affordable cities are:

1. Londonderry, Northern Ireland
2. Lisburn, Northern Ireland
3. Belfast, Northern Ireland
4. Stirling, Scotland
5. Bradford, Yorkshire and the Humber
6.Salford, North West
7. Glasgow, Scotland
8. Lancaster, North
9. Hull, Yorkshire and the Humber

10. Sunderland, North

This follows on the heels of the Government announcing new plans to boost the housing market with the "Help to Buy Scheme". Mortgage lenders and surveyors are all reporting signs that the

market is improving.

Last year the Government launched "Funding for Lending" and indications suggest should increase the number of mortgages by a third which is all very encouraging news.
