Teacher misdiagnosed and dying of 50 tumours

A 30 year old teacher has been told he has terminal cancer after been misdiagnosed for years.

Jordi Akhurst, a maths teacher from Devon first spotted a suspect mole on his back in 2007 but his fears were allayed by a hospital dermatologist.

Repeatedly telling the father of one that there was nothing wrong, Mr Akhurst became alarmed when the mole began to bleed and crack but again he was told it was benign.

For nine months, the Bristol University classics graduate was put off until his GP finally agreed to remove the mole and send samples off for analysis.

Mr Akhurst told the Daily Mail, "My GP told me they don't remove them anymore and I was referred to a dermatologist at Derriford Hospital who said there was nothing wrong with it and he would leave it and see how it went".

The devastating news that the mole was Cancerous was eventually delivered by his dermatologist and a specialist Cancer nurse.

Following three painful operations to remove the infected tissue, the father of a five year old boy thought he had beaten the disease but it was January last year when he noticed some more lumps.

By April 2013, Mr Akhurst was told that he was suffering from Stage 4 Cancer which is terminal.  The Cancer has now spread to his adrenal glands, lymph nodes, brain and heart.

"I'm 30 and have a terminal illness – it's all very well if you're 70 but I was hoping for another 40 years of life ahead of me".
