Following the demolition of for DWP headquarters, located at Barry House in Preston, the site is to be used for a specialist maths college. The hope is that this new college will help up and coming mathematician's flourish.
The intention is to have a round 260 16 – 19 year old pupils who will be split into two years groups. The Department of Education is expected to back the project, apparently being dubbed the 'Lancaster School of Mathematics', which is to be run by the new academy trust for Rigby Education Trust.
With such courses as Physics, Computer Science, Economics and A Level maths, the aim is to increase the number of students progressing into higher-education in areas of science, maths, engineering and similar courses.
Although the final go ahead is awaited, it is anticipated that the first courses will start in 2022.
All signs are that this project will add up to a great success in the area….
