A mother-to-be claims her offer of a cleaning job at Morrisons supermarket was withdrawn because she is expecting a baby.
Holly Holden, a 20-year-old microbiology student, has deferred her university studies while expecting. She says she was offered the £8.20-an-hour cleaning job and even signed a contract with TC Facilities Management.
Following a successful interview where her pregnancy was discussed, Ms Holden says she was offered the job, signed a three-month contract and was due to start on Monday this week.
But the night before she was due to start work, she claims she received a message from the company via Facebook, saying that she could not have the job because she was 19 weeks pregnant.
The message reads: "I'm really sorry but my area manager has overruled my decision to take you on as you're due in April and has someone else in mind for the job.
"If you want a job after you've had little baby then please come back, sorry."
Ms Holden said the message made her feel ashamed to be pregnant. She said:
"I've never been turned down at an interview before being pregnant, I've always been really lucky in that sense.
"It's awful to hear that the reason you didn't get a job is because an area manager doesn't want you because you're pregnant."
