Sheffield Couple Find Maggots in Aldi Chicken

A couple were horrified to open a chicken bought from a Sheffield supermarket and find what they say were maggots inside the bird.

Darren Lister was preparing a Sunday roast with his girlfriend Hannah when he made the grim discovery. The chicken had been bought from an Aldi store in Handsworth the previous afternoon.

The 31-year-old student nurse was disgusted to find the bird's innards had been left inside and a number of dead maggots were visible.

Mr Lister contacted Aldi who offered him a refund and £20 worth of vouchers – a sum he describes as 'insulting' as it would not even cover the cost of the takeaway the couple ordered to replace their planned Sunday dinner.

He said:

"I found the amount they offered in compensation insulting. To me it suggests they don't value us as customers, and it doesn't give us confidence that they're investigating to make sure it won't happen again.

"We want to be made aware of exactly how this happened and what's going to be done as a result."

An Aldi spokeswoman said: "We have apologised to Mr Lister and have raised this isolated incident with our supplier."
