Parents were outraged when they found out their children were only given one chicken nugget a day for their lunch time meal.
Infant children around the UK are entitled to a free hot meal every lunch time under the new flagship scheme but this wasn't the case at a primary school in Birmingham.
Councillor Valerie Sea bright said: "I'm concerned about the quality of food after visiting a certain school. The portions were inadequate as children in reception class got one chicken nugget, year 1 got two chicken nuggets and year three got three or four nuggets."
Nick Clegg, deputy prime minister launched the scheme, over a month ago, for under sevens to receive free school meals.
Councillors in the area pointed out even if the children received more chicken nuggets it would still be nutrionaly unacceptable.
The new scheme began after celebrity chef Jamie Oliver released a healthy eating campaign. Since then government has assigned £2.30 for each meal per pupil and set aside £150 million to revamp school kitchens.
