Paddy McGuinness has initiated legal proceedings following allegations that he stopped at a Michelin-starred restaurant during his 300-mile Children in Need charity bike ride.
The Radio 2 presenter and former host of Question of Sport and Top Gear reportedly began the legal process on Thursday after Popbitch, an online gossip newsletter, claimed he took a helicopter from Preston to the fine-dining restaurant L'Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria.
According to the report, McGuinness was "spotted staying overnight" in Cartmel before resuming his ride, which raised £9 million for the charity.
McGuinness, 51, has denied these claims and is understood to have instructed his legal team to take action against Popbitch, known for celebrity gossip and rumors.
"This story is completely and utterly false. At no point did Paddy leave the challenge team," a member of his team told a national news paper. "They were together every second. Paddy spent most nights receiving physio to prepare for the next day, followed by an early night due to the 6am wake up."
McGuinness is reportedly working with Carter-Ruck, a prominent London-based law firm that also represents Amanda Abbington, a former Strictly Come Dancing contestant.
L'Enclume, one of the UK's most acclaimed restaurants, is known for its 15-course tasting menu priced at £250. Owned by renowned chef Simon Rogan, the establishment champions the farm-to-fork movement, sourcing much of its ingredients from its nearby farm. The restaurant also offers accommodations for overnight guests.
McGuinness began Radio 2's Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge on November 11, setting off from Wrexham AFC on a Raleigh Chopper. He completed the journey in Glasgow four days later.
Reflecting on the experience, McGuinness described the ride as "life-changing."
During his Radio 2 broadcast after finishing the challenge, he added: *"What a week it's been – it feels like I've been off for a month. What we have achieved – by 'we' I mean you lot – over the last five days is nothing short of staggering. I still cannot comprehend what has happened and what is still happening now.
"That is the power of Radio 2, you gorgeous listeners, and the wonderful Great British public. From Wrexham to Glasgow, the streets were lined with people supporting me, willing me on, and wishing me the best."
Popbitch has yet to comment on the matter.
