Heathrow Cancelled More Flights Than Gatwick

David Miller, Transport editor at the Telegraph has reported that Heathrow struggled the most to cope with bad weather last month while Gatwick has emerged almost unaffected from recent bad weather.

It was reported that Heathrow decided to cancel 137 flights a day in advance, compared to Gatwick, who only cancelled 6. Heathrow's flight cancellations came ahead of the country's largest storm in years.

Unfortunately 19,000 Heathrow passengers were forced, because of cancellations, to make alternative arrangements. The comparison is against 1,000 passengers whose flights were cancelled at Gatwick.

A Heathrow spokesman said: "Heathrow is the world's busiest two runway airport and is effectively full." He said that "cancelling flights in advance introduces space into the schedule, meaning airlines can rebook passengers onto un-allocated seats on other flights, significantly reducing disruption and giving passengers clear information in advance about the status of their flight."

It is reported that this is not the first time that Gatwick has appeared to cope better with bad weather.
