When career woman Jo Perkins was sacked recently from a multi-million pound company for having a 4 inch tattoo on her foot, she decided to take legal action.
In a Daily Mail report, 38 year old Jo, who has been working as a consultant for the facilities management company, Salisbury FM, blasted her former employers, calling them, 'ridiculous'.
The Milton Keynes firm enforced its anti-tattoo policy in June and a spokesman for the high level company claims that there is no ban on staff having tattoos.
Chief Executive, Ed Swales added, "Salisbury's company policy is that tattoos should not be visible at work. The policy is simply one of covering tattoos and not a ban on tattoos".
However, Jo, who had been working for the company for five months and was recruited by an agency, told reporters that she had been praised for her 'outstanding' work during her employment there.
The four inch tattoo with a butterfly and scroll design sitting neatly on Jo's foot is only visible when she wears a dress for work.
As the issue came to a head, Jo claims that she was forced out of her job. Reportedly she arrived at work and was asked by managers to leave or she would be forcibly removed. An allegation the company later denied.
In response to her sacking, Jo added, "I am consulting a solicitor, on behalf of all professionals with tattoos, to see if this action constitutes discrimination under inclusion and diversity laws".
