Bereavement is an emotive and stressful time and if you need to register a death in Witney we can provide advice and support to guide you through those very sad, early days.
The death should be registered in the district where it occurs, in the case of Witney, this will be the West Oxfordshire District Council Offices, Woodgreen, Witney, OX14 3HU. Contact them for opening times on: 0845 129 5900.
Unless there is a Coroner's investigation, the death must be registered within five days by either a relative, a person who is present at the death, the occupier of the premises where the death occurs providing they are aware of the death at the time or the person responsible for arranging the funeral.
To register a death in Witney or elsewhere in England and Wales it is important that before you contact a solicitor to deal with probate and the estate of the deceased, you must first obtain a 'death certificate'.
You will need to take certain documents to the register office including the medical certificate providing the cause of death for the registrar, the deceased person's birth certificate or passport if you have it and their medical card although this is not essential.
Once the death has been registered our solicitors will be able to obtain a 'Grant of probate' and deal with the property of the deceased, assets and liabilities. Ultimately, we will be able to distribute monies to the beneficiaries of 'the will' if one has been made.
If you need our advice and support about how to register a death in Witney or wherever a death has occurred, we are here to guide you through.
