Pothole in Oldham Causes Horse Rider to Suffer Horrendous Facial Injuries

Sherrie Hopwood aged 57 was riding her horse near Daisy Nook Country Park near Oldham. Ms Hopwood has over 50 years riding experience and had taken her horse Jay, to the Daisy Nook bridal path.

They reached Crime Lane, which was water-logged, when her horse stepped into a pothole. The horse's knees gave way, resulting in the horse falling and Ms Hopwood falling from her horse.

Ms Hopwood commented:

"I was flat on my face, I tried shouting for help but there was no one around."

She continued:

"It was raining and there were puddles everywhere. The road is disgraceful, it's very uneven and full of potholes."

Jay suffered cuts to the knees and legs. Ms Hopwood suffered horrendous facial injuries with severe bruising and cuts.

Oldham Council Neighbourhood boss, Helen Lockwood said:

"Inspectors have visited the scene to assess the damage. Unfortunately, over recent months some of our roads have been left damaged due to the persistent cold and wet weather."

No comment has been made as to what repairs would be taken.
