The Jackson Reforms take effect from 1st April. From then the Solicitor's Regulatory Authority will place a ban on referral fees in personal injury matters.

With the rise in whiplash claims and allegations of the UK having a 'compensation culture', it is expected that the Jackson reforms will lead to a decline in the number of personal injury cases.

Many Personal Injury solicitors welcome these changes as it can be argued that often Claims Management Companies were passing through claims to solicitors, for a fee, that were unlikely to have a successful outcome in court.

As a result the referral fee system worked to the detriment of the client.

With the new SRA ruling, clients should find it easier to have direct access to personal injury law firms, cutting out the need for middleman.
