Medical negligence claims against the NHS have risen by almost 20% against last year's figures. In that period  the cost of claims made against the NHS amounted to in excess of £1 billlion .

Lawyers are claiming that since the findings of the Francis Enquiry earlier this year  into the Mid Staffordshire Hospital Trust, they are seeing a sharp rise in claims for medical and clinical negligence. Blame has been apportioned to  lack of patient care and hospitals failing to accept accountability.
