A 75 year old pensioner is heartbroken after a series of NHS blunders robbed her of the chance to say goodbye to her husband of 50 years.
On the day Edna Roberts 76 year old husband Charles fell ill, she was forced to call an ambulance four times before they agreed to take him to the hospital.
Concerned that her husband was suffering from aortic embolism and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Edna says that she was criticised for calling an ambulance on the first two occasions and told to administer pain killers.
By the third 999 call, a doctor diagnosed Mr Roberts with a severe bladder infection and a further ambulance was called to finally take him to hospital.
A further agonising 45 minutes later, an ambulance crew arrived to take Edna's husband to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.
The former soldier in the British Army and father of six took a turn for worse the following day when his wife was telephoned by hospital staff asking her to get there as soon as possible as her husband had 'taken a dip'.
Mrs Roberts was horrified to discover when she arrived by taxi that her husband of five decades had been transferred to Worcester Royal Hospital, 17 miles away. By the time she arrived there, Charles had passed away.
Chief Nursing Officer for the Worcestershire NHS Trust, Lindsey Webb commented in the Mail Online, "We will be in touch with Mrs Roberts personally to offer our sincere apologies".
