A goldfish named George has undergone a major brain tumour operation after falling ill.
The loved pet, was suffering from a brain tumour which was effecting his swimming and eating but he has survived the procedure and is making a full recovery.
Vet Dr Tristan Rich of Lort Smith Animal Hospital, Melbourne, Australia said, "It can be a very fiddly job working on an animal so petite and you have to be extremely careful how much blood loss the fish will lose.
The 10 year old fish was sedated in a bucket of water mixed with anaesthetic and gelatine sponge was then used to control George's breathing for 45 minutes.
Vet Surgeon Dr Rich Tristan says, "If the fish remains healthy, he could live for up to another 20 years."
In total the operation on George cost several hundred dollars but owner Pip Joyce, was glad the operation was successful and George can happily swim back in his tank.
George's owner Pip Joyce, said "We love our pet fish George. He has been such great company and we have some good laughs from him."
