A building that collapsed into "a pile of bricks" in Oldham town centre has now been completely demolished.
Emergency services were called to King Street at around 11.30 am on Friday August 12, and quickly evacuated the area.
The privately-owned King's House building had been reported to Oldham Council the previous day by a local business who feared it was a serious threat to public safety.
The Manchester-based owner of the building was contacted and served with a legal notice ordering him to appoint a Chartered Structural Engineer to carry out a detailed report.
However, Oldham Council confirmed the building was in danger of "imminent and total collapse" and a controlled demolition was carried out at 5.00 pm on Friday.
Abdul Jabbar, deputy leader of Oldham Council, said:
"I would like to thank our Building Control team and our partners from Greater Manchester Fire and Police for their rapid and professional response to this incident. Their actions have probably saved lives or prevented serious injury.
"Swift action was taken to keep the public safe as soon as we became aware of this problem on Thursday afternoon and the partial collapse of the building earlier today showed that we had avoided a potentially very tragic event."
