Dell Rolls Out Bitcoin to Customers in the UK and Canada

Consumers in the United Kingdom and Canada can now buy computers and computing accessories from Dell using the popular crypto-currency Bitcoin.

After signing a deal last year with Coinbase, a US-based Bitcoin wallet and exchange service, Dell started accepting Bitcoin currency as payment for their products in the US. Dell has since announced that it has rolled-out the feature in the UK and Canada.

Paul Walsh, Dell's chief information officer, said of the expansion:

"We're hearing from our customers around the world that they want the option to use Bitcoin when buying Dell products, so we are excited to deliver Bitcoin as a payment method on Dell.com to our customers in Canada and the UK."

"Through the expansion of Bitcoin we're enabling new levels of convenience for our customers, making it easier for them to do business with Dell."

With annual sales nearing £39 billion ($60 billion), Dell is the third largest PC retailer in the world. The integration of Bitcoin has been positive for the business, with the biggest Bitcoin purchase so far being a high-end PowerEdge server system worth more than £33,000 ($50,000).

Coinbase co-founder, Fred Ehrsam, said of the deal:

"We're really pleased to partner with Dell once again, this time bringing its customers in the UK and Canada the option to pay with Bitcoin."
