Some London 2012 Workers Still Owed Money

Four years after the 2012 Olympic Games in London, some of the people who helped make the event happen are still waiting to be paid for their work. At least 11 stewards and security guards are each owed up to £1,800.

An investigation by BBC Inside Out London tracked down the individual who recruited the workers, Rukhsana Kauser, who insists she never directly recruited anyone for the Olympics.

However, the former Britannia Security Service Ltd employees insist they will not give up their attempts to claim their earnings.

Mohammad Anwar, one of the workers who claims he is still owed money, said he should have been earning £7-8 per hour for his 12-hour shifts. But, he claims "she ran away with the money."

Aamir Rafique, another of the people who worked for Miss Kauser, said he had to take out a loan after not being paid, which had so far cost him more than £3,000 in repayments and interest.

In 2012 Miss Kauser was the sole director of Britannia Security Service Ltd, which has since been dissolved. It was sub-contracted to recruit and manage staff for the London Games by another firm, AP Security.

AP Security says it gave Britannia sufficient funds to pay any employees in full, but workers who chased Miss Kauser for their wages received no response to their emails or phone calls.

None of the workers has ever met Miss Kauser in person and they are now pursuing legal action.
