Dover mum Kelly Wissenden was shocked to discover that family GP had stolen cash from her purse while she was tending to her sick baby son.
The theft happened when Miss Wissenden took nine month old Zaio to the White Cliffs Medical Centre in Dover last June.
Baby Zaio had been suffered from an upset stomach when mum took him to see GP Nurpal Mittall but was horrified to discover Mittall rifling through her personal belongings after she had stepped out of the consulting room.
When Miss Wissenden returned to the consulting room she was confused to see Mittall looking flustered, she describes the GP as 'fiddling' around near the baby changing bag and buggy where she had left her handbag.
It was only after mum and baby had left the surgery did she discover £130 was missing from her purse which she had only withdrawn earlier that day to pay for a car repair bill.
Canterbury Crown Court heard that Miss Wissenden reported the theft to police later that day after she returned to the surgery when a search of the premises was conducted.
Mittal was convicted of theft and bailed until June when she will be sentenced according to a report in the Daily Mail. It was heard in court that Mittal had previously received a conviction in Scotland for shoplifting.
Miss Wissenden was understandably upset by the theft, speaking of her GP she said, "I put my faith in her, my son's life was in her hands and she stole from me. It's been such a stressful time. The reaction you get when you tell people is, really – but she's a doctor".
