An inquest into the lung cancer death of a Cheshire man was unable to solve whether exposure to lethal asbestos contributed to his death.
John Cheetham, of Dixon Drive, Chelford, was diagnosed with lung cancer after a scan at Macclesfield Hospital and died days later at the age of 81 after a heart attack. An inquest into John's death, held at Macclesfield Town Hall on December 2nd, 2015, could not determine exactly when he'd come into contact with asbestos fibres after tests showed the cancer was caused by a combination of smoking and asbestos exposure.
Alan Moore, assistant coroner for Cheshire, said:
"The exposure to asbestos has occurred at some point over his working life, but we cannot say where. We heard hearsay evidence of potential exposure at a garden nursery but it may have also happened during his work as a mechanic or in the army."
While John spent most of his life as a salesman, he also worked at a garden nursery, as a mechanic and driver in the Army.
