A family has forgiven a careless driver who killed a grandfather but escaped a prison sentence.
Clark Greenwood, 62, from Ashton-under-Lyne, was seriously injured when the car he was a passenger in collided with a broken down Mercedes in the middle lane of the M6. Mr Greenwood died from his injuries the following day.
The crash happened on the M6 northbound between junctions 17 and 18, on June 14, 2014.
His friend Gareth George Morris, who was driving the car, was found guilty of causing death by careless driving after a trial at Chester Crown Court.
He was banned from driving for two years, given a 12-month community supervision order, and ordered to do 250 hours unpaid work.
After the sentencing, Clark's family released the following statement;
"It isn't possible to put into words how difficult the last two years have been for us all to deal with. We all thought the world of dad and we all know that he thought the world of us.
"After so much time has passed we don't have any bad feelings towards Gareth Morris, he was dad's friend and someone that he enjoyed spending his time with."
